Post-Surgical Lymphatic Drainage in Leesburg & Ashburn VA
The first few weeks following surgery are critical for your results. Whether you’ve had a cosmetic procedure or an orthopedic surgery, your body’s lymphatic system is often overwhelmed, leading to significant swelling (edema), bruising, and discomfort. At Massage Hope, located in the Lansdowne area of Leesburg, we provide specialized Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) to help your body heal faster and more comfortably.

Why MLD is Essential After Surgery
Standard massage is often too aggressive for a body in recovery. Our certified therapists use the gentle, rhythmic strokes of the Vodder technique to manually move stagnant fluid toward healthy lymph nodes. This process:
Reduces Swelling & Inflammation: Moves fluid away from the surgical site.
Minimizes Bruising: Speeds up the body's ability to reabsorb blood and cellular debris.
Prevents Fibrosis: Helps prevent the formation of hard, lumpy scar tissue or "seromas."
Relieves Pain: Decreases the pressure on nerves caused by fluid buildup.
Procedures We Support
We frequently work with clients recovering from a wide range of surgeries, including:
Cosmetic: Liposuction and body contouring (360, Vaser), Tummy Tucks (Abdominoplasty), BBLs, and Facelifts.
Orthopedic: Knee and Hip Replacements, Shoulder or ACL repairs
General: Mastectomies and other procedures involving lymph node removal.
Breast augmentation, reduction, or reconstruction
Mastectomy and lymph node removal
Any procedure involving swelling or bruising
When Should You Start?
Most surgeons recommend beginning MLD as early as 3 to 5 days post-op, provided there are no complications. However, we always coordinate with your medical team to ensure you are ready for treatment.
What to Expect During Your Session
Unlike deep tissue work, MLD is incredibly light—Sessions are gentle, relaxing, and focused entirely on your comfort and recovery. You will lie in a supported position while we use light, rhythmic strokes to move fluid and reduce swelling. You will be positioned comfortably in our clinical office suite, often using specialized bolsters or reclining the massage table to keep you at the incline required by your surgeon. Our goal is to move fluid, not muscle, making this a painless and relaxing part of your recovery. Most clients feel lighter and less tight after just one session.
What our clients say:
“After my liposuction, I was so swollen I could barely move. After just two sessions at Massage Hope, the tightness in my stomach vanished and I could finally see my results starting to take shape. They are true professionals." – Jennifer L., Lansdowne
