Wendy - Licensed Massage Therapist
Who are you?
Hi, I’m Wendy, mother to 2 girls, 2 stepsons, 1 dog and 2 cats. I grew up in Alexandria, VA and graduated from Old Dominion in 1996. I love to cook, watch my daughters on the soccer field and at horse shows, read books in my field and take a relaxing vacation to the Outer Banks.
Why did you become a massage therapist?
After graduating college I felt a strong desire to help people in the health and wellness filed. I debated going into nursing, but during that time I was devoting time to learning about massage for my own therapeutic reasons and benefits. After I saw the firsthand healing effects on so many levels, I knew I had finally found my calling; becoming a massage therapist.
Where & When did you go to school?
I graduated from The Baltimore School of Massage in 2000.
What modalities do you specialize in?
I specialized in Deep Tissue, Myofascial, Thai, Reiki, Hot Stones, Reflexology, Sports Massage. I work with a lot of clients post surgery or post physical therapy; often times PT runs out and the client still has healing left to do. That’s where I come in with massage!
List any dysfunctions and acute/chronic conditions you have treated or particularly specialize in:
TMJ, migraines, neck and shoulder pain or dysfunction, sciatica pain, IT band issues, frozen shoulder, low back pain, and restoring mobility post surgery for clients.
Why is massage important to you?
Massage promotes healing on so many levers. There is no downside to receiving massage, which is unlike some other healthcare treatments. To relax the body and mind through massage allows for continued healing.
How would you describe your style of massage:
My style of massage is deep, relaxing and theapeutic. I try and incorporate stretching and dynamic movements into my massage as well.
What keeps you motivated?
My biggest motivator is my desire to help others and play a part in their journey toward healing. Seeing the benefits of massage and how transformative it is in my clients lives keeps me going!
