Donnie - Licensed Massage Therapist
Who are you?
Hi, I’m Donnie. I grew up in Richmond, VA and moved to Northern VA when I was in high school. During school I wrestled and played football. Afterward, I got into boxing and was even considering competing until I suffered a low back injury; a herniated disk. After rehabilitation for that injury, I got back in shape and now enjoy exercising and weight training in my spare time.
Why did you become a massage therapist?
While playing sports in high school I saw the impact sports trainers had assisting athletes with their injuries. I became interested in the health field as a result and initially started to look into Physical Therapy. After shadowing a few Physical Therapists I decided that was not the right fit for me. Following that, I shadowed a chiropractor who was also a certified massage therapist and saw the amazing effect he had with massage therapy on his clients. That’s when I knew massage therapy was what I wanted to pursue.
Where and when did you go to school?
I studied at and graduated from the National Massage Therapy Institute in 2006.
What modalities do you specialize in?
I specialize in Neuromuscular massage, Sports Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Trigger Point and Active Release Technique (ART).
List any dysfunctions and acute/chronic conditions you have treated or particularly specialize in:
I specialize in treatment of neck and shoulder injuries, low back injuries, rotator cuff issues and injuries, herniated disks, sciatica pain and tension.
Why is massage important to you?
Massage is important to me because I believe I have a gift of healing hands and I want to be able to use my skills and gift to help others. Massage is such a vital part of someone’s health, and I’m honored to help others be their healthiest self.
How would you describe your style of massage?
My style of massage is very focused. I make sure my massage is tailored to each clients needs and wants for that session, but I generally work slow and deep to provide relief for my clients.
What keeps you motivated?
I’m motivated by knowing I have a set of skills that are intended to help others. Being able to see the first hand improvements in my clients after massage sessions is a huge motivator. I always strive to be the best that I can be and because of that, I constantly am challenged by that desire to provide the best service and ensure my clients are seeing relief and results. This challenge and desire to improve and tackle whatever is in front of me is my biggest driving motivator.
